Socratic Dialogues on Computer Science

Student:    So what’s all this computer stuff?

Professor:  If you scroll down, you’ll see a list of Socratic Dialogues that I have on a variety of science topics in computer science, computer engineering, and digital circuits.  Some of them are aimed that those taking a class in computer science.  Others are aimed at those who are merely curious about the basics of how computers work.

Student:    Yeah, computers sure are fascinating, but whenever they start talking about RAM and ROM and hard drives and all that crazy business – well, so much of it is over my head.

Professor:  I understand!  It can be difficult to get through all the acronyms like RAM (which stands for read only memory) and CPU (which stands for central processing unit).  Often times, the people who understand all of this have forgotten what it’s like to not understand all this stuff – it can be hard to find an explanation for computer topics that is aimed at non computer people.  Surprisingly, computers aren’t any more difficult to understand than anything else, if they are properly explained.

Student:    Yeah, if I could just find something or someone who could properly explain them.

Professor:  Sounds like you need Socratic Dialogues!  Scroll down to see a list of my science dialogues.

Computer Engineering:

Computer Architecture:  “What are all those circuit boards inside my computer about?  How could anyone make sense of them?”

The Internet:

TCP/IP Protocol – How the Internet Actually Works:  “You know, I get on the internet all the time, but I have no idea how it actually works!”
