Welcome to the Fiber Research Group at the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute, Department of Plant and Soil Science (Texas Tech University). Our research objectives are aimed at: (1) improving the measurement and understanding of cotton fiber properties and contaminants, (2) studying the impacts of these on textile processing performance, (3) working collaboratively with the cotton breeding and cotton biotechnology community to develop improved properties in cotton fibers. This is fundamental to the FBRI’s longstanding mission to add value to natural fibers produced in Texas.
This course focuses on the examination of the structure of cotton
fibers, the meaning and measurement of cotton fiber properties, and the
issues related to increasing cotton’s use value as an industrial raw
material.
