Proposals should have included the aspects listed below (much of this is in chapter 10).  Make sure that these items (and any others in chapter 10) are seriously considered before you continue with your tests (sampling).  Do this by the next class period.  The presentations are quite soon.

Example of items addressed while performing an experiment involving the  tolerance of fish to beer:

  • Where will the fish come from
  • How many fish will be used per treatment
  • How much water and beer will you use per treatment
  • What is the size of the containers that will be used
  • How narrow of a range will be obtained
  • How will you analyze the data – If the data is not analyzed the certainty of the results will not be known
  • State the hypothesis
  • State predictions
  • State assumptions
  • Discuss the possible variables that may affect the results.  For example:  When using fish addresses the issue of size difference among fish
  • Communicate accurately (e.g. the desired message).
  • More

Tests are usually preceded by having some knowledge of key aspects of the subject.  This way the predictions and the experiments will have some sort of foundation.  Learn about the topic by reading reliable sources.  Do not trust the news or newspaper.
