· Academic Research Library:
o Inherited a small library IT department with two tenure-track faculty IT/Librarian positions (including mine), four full-time professional staff, and three part-time student employees. In four years (as a direct report to the Dean of Libraries) reorganized and grew the department to five tenure-track faculty IT/Librarian positions, 14 full-time professional IT staff, and 60 part-time student employees, with four divisions:

§ Dozens of crucial educational partnerships with other universities, regional high schools, and vendors.
§ Conversion of 12,000 sq ft of the Library into a high technology open access environment providing state-of-art emerging relevant technologies with a public service desk and helpdesk—many aspects are first of their kind in any ARL Library
§ TTU Tier 1 membership with the Texas Digital Library (TDL) with Texas A&M and UT Austin, establishing TTU, early-on as the most robust of the three legs of the redundant infrastructure and data storage systems supporting TDL.
§ Comprehensive IT lifecycle program with a $475,000/yr budget
§ Pay-for-print cost recovery system
§ Comprehensive public and staff printing solutions renovation by outsourcing comprehensive printing and scanning hardware solutions—paid for itself with profit within the first year
§ Comprehensive server consolidation program
§ Extensive intranet development utilizing blogs, wikis, MS SharePoint, and significant supporting infrastructure enhancements
§ IT helpdesk system and comprehensive Service Level Agreement (SLA) program for all mission-critical systems
§ Experimental PC cluster with over 25 nodes
§ Experimental Oracle cluster with two server nodes fiber channeled to the campus SAN
§ Collaborative 3D/Animation rendering solutions
§ Digital production lab for library digital initiatives with over $600,000 of state-of-the-art digitizing hardware and software solutions and a $100,000 annual budget—many aspects first of their kind in the United States
§ End-to-end gigabit fiber connectivity between the digital lab and 90+ TB of library-owned storage in the campus SAN, with a $100,000 annual budget for growth
§ Comprehensive wired and wireless telecommunications infrastructure upgrades throughout the Library facilities
· Public Library: Comprehensive and independent library IT development for patrons and staff covering ten established library facilities, ranging in size from 7000 sq ft to 33,000 sq ft, across a large metropolitan county. Included:
o Sole Project Manager, $4 million CIP funding, six-year comprehensive CIP/IT project
§ Oversight of the design (outsourced), procurement and implementation of all networking telecommunications infrastructure (LAN—wired and wireless, & highly innovative hi-speed fiber WAN),
§ Managed the design and implementation of electrical power upgrades at all library facilities to accommodate new technology
§ Planned, procured, and implemented 400+ PCs, 15 servers, email services, intranet and Internet web services, and an integrated library system
§ Purchased and developed a highly customized and comprehensive system for pay-for-print, public internet access management, and public PC session-management services
§ Managed library technical services process re-engineering
§ Established the Library IT Department, with (eventually) seven full-time employees
§ Developed a comprehensive IT training program for library staff.
§ Orchestrated the integration of the independent Library infrastructure and systems with County IT and County Schools infrastructures and systems for compatibility and interoperability
o Developed and maintained a comprehensive IT lifecycle program and budget
o Secured two consecutive Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grants totaling over $300,000
o Conducted a two-year experiment with $250,000/year IT support and development outsourcing contract that was eventually pulled back in house with the hiring of additional IT employees. Included implementing a comprehensive IT helpdesk system and developing a helpdesk service model.
o Department Manager, $1+ million annual IT operating budget
o Three years of comprehensive IT planning for new public library facility construction
§ Three facilities (two replacement facilities, and one additional Area Library; sizes 15,000 sq ft, 40,000 sq ft, 50,000 sq ft).
§ End-to-end network design, LAN with Fiber-to-the-desktop and wireless for staff and patrons, and hi-speed fiber WAN
§ Patron computer labs with specialized hardware and software
§ Over 200 additional public PCs and 100 staff PCs and laptops
§ Multimedia-equipped public and staff meeting rooms
§ Combined $1.5+ million IT budget for the three new facilities.
